New Hobbies

There used to be a time when my hobbies consisted of school and not-school. Nowadays, when people ask me about my hobbies I whip out an Excel spreadsheet and start going into detail. I have too many hobbies, or not enough free time. Of those two options I would tend to agree with the latter. Regardless, I have discovered two new things at DEFCON that I want to do more of.

The first one fits pretty nicely into my existing hobby of photography. Urban Exploration consists of going into places people aren't really supposed to go. Sounds odd and a lot like trespassing because, well, that's kinda sorta what it is. The part that I like is that many of the Urban Explorers out there have taken some amazing pictures. I think I might start out somewhere safer and move up to crazy - depending on how many reports I have to write.

The second hobby is lockpicking. I'm really excited about this one and I ordered some picks last night. I also found out that my Dad used to be a locksmith, so I'll have to use his expertise as I start to learn more locks and techniques.

I picked up a Master #140 lock from Walgreens last night and started playing around with a bobby pin pick and a pen cover tension wrench. The lock has a spool pin so it may not have been the best lock to start out on especially considering my lack of real tools, but it's still fun.
